Employment Opportunities
At Bearskin Lodge
Bearskin Lodge is the premier family resort located on the famous
Gunflint Trail, about 26 miles from the town of Grand Marais, MN. We
are on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Right out
our door are a million and a half acres of pristine lakes and rivers.
Our facilities are the best available. It takes much hard work by
dedicated staff to maintain the quality of service our guests have come
to expect. If you are interested in joining the Bearskin staff, we
would like to hear from you! Fill out our job application and forward
it to us. The application is found linked to this page at the bottom.

Summer employment at Bearskin
Lodge for 2010:
Bearskin has a full staff for 2009. Please
consider applying next year. A good introduction to what it's
like to spend a
summer at Bearskin Lodge can be found in Cara Finnegan's blog about her
memories of working at Bearskin: http://caraf.blogs.com/caraf/2008/06/all-i-know-about-cleaning-i-learned-at-bearskin-lodge.html
Also, see our blogs about the quality of our 2008 employees at http://bearskin.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/summer-fun-working-at-bearskin-lodge-or-making-love-to-toilets/
and http://bearskin.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/summer-goodbyes-so-soon/
We take great pride in the quality of our staff at Bearskin.
A
few things you should know before you consider applying for summer
employment at Bearskin
Lodge:
- Bearskin is one of the
larger resorts on the Gunflint Trail, but we are still a small,
family-owned resort. We are very dependent on the reliability of
a minimal number of summer employees. If you leave earlier than
you promised, it is no small thing -- we employ exactly the right
number of people to make it through the summer season. Please be honest
about your ending dates. We will give first priority to people
who can start by mid-May or who can work through Labor Day, or close to
that date.
- You should also know that
whatever job you take at Bearskin, you will probably be called upon to
assist in some way with housekeeping on weekends. If you would
not be willing to cheerfully help with this task, please don't
apply. Providing beautifully clean wilderness cabins is what we
do here.
- Everyone works on
Saturdays and Sundays, "turn-over" days. If you are not
comfortable with working on those days, this is not your ideal summer
job. You will generally have 2 days off in a row each week, but those
days will usually not be on the weekend.
- Working at Bearskin means
you have the wilderness at your doorstep. We want you to
experience this beautiful environment. But unless it is arranged
before you are hired, your relatively short term of summer employment
here is not a good time to plan to take time off for a vacation or
honeymoon. We very much need our employees to be here during the
time for which they are hired. This is a good job for somebody
who wants to work all summer.
- Staff housing is
non-smoking. Our housing is simple, but fairly nice. You
will be living in close proximity to others. Our ideal employee
will be a good neighbor to co-workers and tolerant of individual
differences. Bearskin employees almost function as a family for
the summer. This is a good job for people who care about others
and who get along well in a group situation. If you like to work
and live alone, a summer at Bearskin will not be enjoyable for you.
- We will give first
priority to hiring previous Bearskin employees.
If you think you fit these criteria, please fill out the application
linked to this page and fax or mail it to us. It can also be copied
into a Word document and saved as a PDF, then attached to an
e-mail. A cover letter or e-mail describing your interest
in the job and your background helps us get to know you. Your job
references will be checked, so please provide accurate contact
information.

Our summer jobs have
been filled. We will be hiring staff again to start after Labor
Day. The following positions are open:
|
Full time
housekeeping position/positions available again in late August
We are extremely proud of
our housekeeping team. The
superior condition and cleanliness of Bearskin cabins and lodges is the
key to our success. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who
can work quickly, alone or in teams, and take pride in a job well done. We need somebody who loves to clean,
organize and be in charge of keeping Bearskin cabins meticulous.
The
job encompasses more than housekeeping -- this employee needs to
organize large areas, inventory and order supplies, train and supervise
other employees, make decorating and spending decisions, and be part of
the Bearskin management team.
Job requires excellent
interpersonal skills and the ability to get along with a variety of
personality types. (It isn't hard to get along here -- this is a
cheery, fun and drama-free group.) Experience with hotel housekeeping
is a plus, but a person who is hardworking, reliable, physically and
emotionally healthy, and well organized can learn the job. Nice
apartment available.
Good spoken grammar, written language and guest interaction skills are
a plus; someone with these skills can also fill in at front desk or on
the phone when needed.
We're going to keep this position open for
awhile until we find exactly the right person, preferably somebody who
will be willing to do this for more than a year. (It's just too
difficult to start over retraining somebody in this critical job --
only apply if you are looking for a long-term position.) We have
somebody who has stepped into the position for temporarily and
she will stay to train the right person. Call us or e-mail us to
talk more if this position interests you. Or fill out the
application at http://www.bearskin.com/app.html
