A Gunflint Trail
fishing destination since 1925
|
|
East
Bearskin is a beautiful Canadian Shield lake that supports excellent
populations of walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, and lake trout.
There is a variety of structure on the north side of the lake and
several deep drops on the south side. East Bearskin Lake is 4 miles
long, with the far east end inside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area
Wilderness. (There is a motor limit of 25 hp inside the BWCAW.) A
number of other nearby lakes with excellent fishing can be accessed
from East Bearskin Lake with portages. Our front desk staff can
help you plan a memorable fishing trip -- or consider the option
of using our fishing guide service.
Fishing Guide Service
Guided fishing trips
are available at Bearskin Lodge from mid--May through early October. A
guided
fishing trip is fun and instructional for both the novice and advanced
fisherman. Our fishing guides will show you the tactics and
seasonal hot
spots that will make your fishing time on East Bearskin more rewarding.
And you
may even catch a few fish.
Guided day trips into
the Boundary Waters and surrounding lakes are also available.
Bearskin Lodge supports Catch and Release.

Bearskin's Fishing Guide
 This
year Bearskin has a great new fishing guide, Curtis Blake. Curtis has
lived on the Gunflint Trail for 20 years, where he was taught to fish
by his father, Mike Berg, the owner/operator of Seagull Creek Fishing
Camp. Curtis has been fishing area lakes almost all his
life. He’s been successfully guiding on Sag, Seagull and Northern
Lights Lakes for the past 5 years. Curtis is knowledgeable,
articulate and helpful.
If you
haven’t hired a guide before on a Bearskin visit, this might be a great
year to do so. The fishing has been excellent, if you know where
to find them and what to use on this lake. Many guests hire the
guide when they first get to Bearskin so they can find out right away
where the fish are hiding, then continue to use that
knowledge all week on their own.
If
you think you’ll want a guided trip with Curtis, call our front desk to
schedule it now so you’re sure to get the times and dates that you want.
