The wilderness areas of the world are disappearing at an alarming rate, and precious few
are left in the United States. One remains in northern Minnesota, accessible from the
Gunflint Trail: the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).
Resting along the Canadian border and connected to the
Quetico National Reserve, this special land is one of enchantment. A delight to the
senses, a symphony of sights, sounds, and smells; magic fills the air. Water and trees,
fish and wildlife, flora and fauna - all are found here in abundance.
To appreciate the wilderness fully,
it must be experienced. Immerse yourself in its tactile beauty. It's not difficult. Climb
into a canoe or boat and head down the lake; or hike one of the area's many trails.
Before you realize, the exact day slips away; it could be
Thursday, Monday, or Saturday. It doesn't really matter, for you have left your worries at
home. At Bearskin, the cabins have no phones or television to interrupt your relaxation.
This is the time and place to get away from it all. There are no words
for how relaxing this vacation experience can be.
When you are away from the wilderness, close your
eyes and take a deep breath. Now, slowly exhale and remember what it's like; in an
instant, you will be taken. If you've never been here before, it is more beautiful
and exciting than you can imagine. Now, open your eyes. You'll be there soon.
Please, respect our wilderness environment, and
remember it's the last one we have. Make sure to visit the Boundary Waters
Canoe Area Wilderness for a fresh look at what this beautiful wilderness area has to
offer. |
